Ultrasonic technologies in industry and energy sector.

Ultrasonic equipment enables removing scale from thermal equipment (such as boilers, heat exchangers, vaporizers, coolers and so on) and avoiding its formation; ultrasonic cleaning and washing of various products can be made in baths.

When ultrasonic equipment is used in thermal equipment, fuel consumption is reduced up to 10 percent and outages of the thermal equipment for their cleaning are eliminated; in addition, labour and financial expenditure are reduced considerably.

The chemical composition of natural waters varies considerably; most frequently, their additions include ions of calcium and magnesium as well bicarbonates, sulphates and chlorides. Such water is usually referred to as «hard water». Carbonate-related hardness is predetermined by salts of calcium and magnesium hydrocarbonates in water; in course of using various heat exchanging equipment, the problem of carbonate scale caused by calcium carbonates (Ca 2+) and magnesium carbonates (Mg 2+) appears. Using and heating of hard water result appearance of scale, mud and the so called water stone, thus causing abundant problems.

Hard water is not usable in circulating water supply systems, steam and hot-water boilers as well as in almost all types of heat exchanging equipment (when scale appears in heat exchanging equipment, «underheating» of the heat exchanger takes place, i.e. the temperature of the medium under heating is reduced. The problem is settled by disassembling and washing the heat exchanger or inserting additional plates, thus considerably increasing consumption of fuel for heating). If untreated water with carbonate-related hardness of 6.7-7.0 mmol/l is used, a 1 mm layer of crumbly scale is formed during 12-14 days; after the following 10-15 days, the said layer of scale is covered by solid limescale.

Repairs, chemical and mechanical cleaning, replacing of pipes and water heating equipment require much time and considerable financial expenditure. In addition, they are bound with outage of the whole heating system, water supply system and so on.

SСALE PREVENTING DEVICE OF USD SERIES

The device is intended for destruction of available scale (carbonate deposits) and further prevention of its formation on surfaces of heat exchanging equipment of wide application with temperature of the shell in the place of the transducers installation up to 160 °C.

The USD device consists of impulse generator and ultrasonic radiators (up to 6 pieces).

The device is widely applied in heat exchanging equipment: steam and hot-water boilers of drum type, other boilers, capacitors and so on. The devices are easily mounted on heat exchanging equipment and require no technical servicing.

OPERATION PRINCIPLE

The device operates on the basis of ultrasonic method preventing scale on heat exchange surface of equipment. When ultrasound influences the border of two mediums: cover and liquid, special physical and chemical reactions go on. From the metal surface cavitation bubbles are radiated. That cause formation of numerous crystallization centers making hardness salts to crystallize in water and not on the equipment surface. Ultrasonic fluctuations promote going of cavitation bubbles through pores and microcracks in scale to the shell of heat exchanging equipment and microexplosion of cavitation bubbles causes the scale exfoliation from the equipment shell.

The device has 4 type versions on power that enables use of up to 6 transducers with one generator/ operating frequency range is regulated when adjusting the device on the object to reach the maximum efficiency of transducers operation. The device has built-in protection against overload and automatically switches on repeatedly.

Place of the transducers mounting is chosen most closely to heat-stressed points where the most intensive scale formation occurs. Influence over these points provides the optimum ultrasonic energy distribution throughout the heat-exchanging surface giving maximum efficiency.

The general principle to be observed when welding transducers requires their mounting on elements uniting pipe bursts and screens, i.e. drums, collectors, pipe grids, etc.
